How to add calcium?

Question:

What tricks is everyone using to add calcium to their diet other than supplements?

No tricks.  I eat yoghurt and cottage cheese as well as regular cheese, and I drink milk. Priscilla

Yogurt, a glass of milk, and cheese just about every day.  (I don’t have any milk intolerances. That I know of.)  Broccoli, tofu and corn tortillas, frequently, and sardines, occasionally. Chewable antacids (Tums) (as antacids), occasionally.  They’re about the cheapest calcium supplement that I know of. This site has a list of dairy and nondairy sources for calcium: http://ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/calcium.asp HTH – FurPaw — "Don’t believe everything that you think." – Seen on a bumper sticker To reply, unleash the dog

I’m slightly dairy intolerant, but I do make a point of having at least   one mocha per day. — Jette Goldie http://www.jette.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/ http://www.livejournal.com/users/wolfette/

Response:

What tricks is everyone using to add calcium to their diet other than supplements? Sorry…no "tricks" with me. I just take the calcium with vitamin D tablets. Oddly enough, I had a bone denisty scan just today, my 3rd. I get them every two years. I should know the results in a week or so. The first two were very good.

I also take the supplements plus magnesium. I use cheese, dry curd cottage cheese and homemade yogurt but no liquid milk. — Diva ***** The Best Man For The Job Is A Woman

I don’t use supplements.  I’m not lactose intolerant so I use dairy products.

when we were kids, we were served the canned crap.  i’m sure cooked fresh baby spinach would be delicious.  but the canned stuff is just unpalatable. david

I think these recommendations are a bit low (old RDA? its always lower than reality anyways) but just by checking a few other sites, they all seem to be higher (women 1000 to 1500 mg depending on age): http://tinyurl.com/6pffl http://huhs.harvard.edu/ClinicalServices/NutritionKnowHow/Calcium.htm They now have orange juice fortified with calcium (1cup = 300-350mg calcium) – however remember your body needs vitamin D for adequate amounts of calcium to be absorbed, and for adequate calcium levels to be maintained (10-15 minutes of sunshine 3x a week helps your body to make vitamin D) But dairy products are still the best choice. :-) joanne

The canned stuff is not food.  It’s reprocessed green slime that was falsely labeled as nutritious in order to give parents a means for torturing their children.  Not food.  No.  No relationship to fresh or very lightly steamed spinach.  None. Question:

Okay, I know this may sound familiar to some people….but I woke up this morning weighing 250 pounds!!!  I didn’t start out life this way. In fact, I was a skinny teenager…at 5"9 I only weighed 130 pounds…now I way 120 pounds more, I’ve actually added a whole other me!!!!  And it’s not because of the two babies I’ve had ( I actually have already lost the baby weight) it’s because I just ate myself to that weight.  I’m embarrased and sad when I look in the mirror…especially when I’m naked…YIPES!!!  Here’s the serious part….why can’t I stop eating…it’s very logical…eat less, lose weight.  But, honestly, the first thing I think of in the morning, is what am I going to eat for breakfast, and then what am I going to snack on, what’s for lunch…etc…it’s like a horrible fixation. I want to start yet another diet, but basically I don’t know what to do anymore.  I’ve tried everything.  And also, this may sound familiar….my whole freaking family, including in-laws are skinny!  I even have a sister-in-law who just won a bikini contest…whatever!! It’s horrible…and I have to sit and listen to how they think they are all fat.  Who do they think they are talking to? I just want to crawl under a chair (but I probably wouldn’t fit!). Anyway, I am so tired of feeling like this and I have to do something. I want to be healthy and here for my kids who are 1 and a newborn.  I thought maybe I could just write a blog everyday or when I feel like eating a whole cake.  Any tips would be appreciated!  My main problem is I just want to eat all of the time!!!! Good luck to everyone trying to lose weight….I hope writing like this helps! — jaymie227

I know just how you feel.  All my in-laws are tiny too and I always feel like I am a giant among the little people when I visit.  Even my grown daughter is tiny too and that really makes me the big one.  But I have learned the hard way, that the first thing to get your mind off eating is to find something else you enjoy doing like gardening, crafts, sewing etc. Then each morning switch your mind to thinking about the other thing you enjoy doing.  Maybe it is redecorating your room, or putting in some new plants.  That’s a start anyway.  Hang in there, you have taken the first step by deciding to loose the weight.  Sandy

You have a one year old and a newborn and you’ve already lost all of your baby weight? So the weight was gained pre-pregnancy(s)? I have been working through issues with an unhealthy preoccupation with food, also. I believe mine was present pre-pregnancy, to some degree, but was greatly exacerbated by being pregnant. It’s been getting better and better because it seems the more you get away from obsessing about food the more you dislike that behavior and the more irrational it seems.   I would recommend distancing yourself from activities or situations that cause you to think about food. At the beginning of my diet I ate Lean Cuisine meals often because it kept me out of that food preparation mode. Since your kids are little you have an advantage because you don’t have to cook big family style meals for them. Good luck and I hope to hear more about your progress! Wendy

I’ve tried alot of diets, and they never worked for me either.  The only real success I’ve ever had is by making permanent changes in the way I eat/live, and start doing so with baby steps.  I started ridiculously easy.  At the very start, I told myself I would spend 5 minutes a day exercising.  I also stopped eating large, hungry man tv dinners and switched to the diet ones.  Both of these changes were fairly easy and painless to make, but even so I could see a difference.  It didn’t take long until I was making more, more drastic changes. But only when I was ready to, and able to keep doing them consistently.    I’ve included a "How Annie is doing it" section in my website listed in my sig, if you are interested in the specifics of how I’ve managed to lose the weight I have.  Good luck, and I hope we see more of your around here! — Annie As of 8-05-05: 258/215.5/140  Standing at 5 foot 4. 2.5 pound loss from 7-29-05. 42.5 pounds lost.  75.5 left to go.  Started February/07/05 Come visit my weight-loss web site, Annie Takes Off. http://webpages.charter.net/lenny13/DietFrontPage.html 42.5 pounds lost.  75.5 left to go.  Started February/07/05 Come visit my weight-loss web site, Annie Takes Off. http://webpages.charter.net/lenny13/DietFrontPage.html

I really feel for you — we have different weight histories (I have never been normal weight) but I do know the pain of being 250 lbs. and more. Several things stuck out to me from your post — one, that once you start eating you can’t stop thinking about it and planning what you’re having next. Another was that you will write when you want to eat an entire cake. The other is that you had diabetes with your pregnancies. I am wondering if you are in the "insulin resistance" category of pre-diabetes. Does it run in your family at all? I know that I have a lot of trouble with insulin reactions to refined carbohydrates. If I eat potato or tortilla chips, restaurant bread basket rolls, breakfast cereal, or sugarfree anything, it starts me on a vicious circle where I cannot stop eating those things even though I "want" to stop or tell myself "that’s the last one" or "OK no more that’s it" — insulin only laughs at these lame protests, LOL. It is a physical reaction. Try keeping track of what you are eating at www.fitday.com or another free weight loss site and see if you are indeed consuming too many processed foods or refined carbohydrates. Try combining protein into each and every meal so that your blood sugar stays on an even keel. Limit the amount of refined carbohydrates you eat and bulk up on vegetables instead. Protein sources could include chicken breast, low-fat cheese or dairy items, a little natural peanut butter, etc. Also try to drink 8-10 glasses of water a day to really get that full feeling (I don’t know if drinking more water would affect your breastfeeding so maybe you might have to wait for that one? I know nothing about breastfeeding). Please keep posting — there’s lots of success here and there’s no reason that it can’t happen for you too. Mary 325-168-150

Thanks for the advice, I will totally check out that website.  I need all the help I can get.   I am really hoping that I can get past this and lose the weight.  I am so tired of feeling like this.  Nothing looks good on me and I don’t even want my husband to touch me.  I keep telling him it’s the kids and I’m just so tired, but really it’s that I find myself so completely disgusting I don’t want him to see.  I really need to tell him how I feel or he is going to think there is something wrong with him.  My worst part is my stomach.  After two babies and two C-Sections it freaking needs it’s own zip code.  I HATE it!!!!!!  Before I had the babies, I was fat, but it was firm and I still had a waist…now it’s all gone to h*ll.  It doesn’t even look human.  I hope losing weight will help with that, or I’m going to have to save up for plastic surgery…maybe I should go on extreme makeover….I can tell them my stomach needs to look more human….ha!! :) The one part of my life I am so lucky in is that all of my friends and family are so supportive.  No one ever says anything negative about my weight (they are all thin) and even though I feel self-conscience around them, it’s not because of anything they do.  On the flip-side, that means I have no one to blame but myself…so I have to fix this. I can’t live like this and I don’t want my kids to be embarrased by me. You’d better tell him asap.  You don’t want him looking outside of your marraige for ‘comfort’. I’m not saying he WILL do this because I do not know him but I have talked to a LOT of married men who DO look outside thier marraiges for such things and the number one thing they say is that they are not getting that attention at home. Rising Obesity in Children Prompts Call to Action

Question:

alt.support.diet.low-carb, says… I don’t think that there’s anything wrong with BMI, per se.  What I think is wrong is when people use it to the exclusion of everything else.  I had one doctor who asked me if I could weigh 150 pounds (which is close to the middle of the BMI index).  I told him that there was no way I could weigh 150 pounds, and it’s true.  I simply have too much muscle to weigh 150 pounds. — Bob M in CT

The problem I have with BMI is exactly the same problem I have with a raw weight reading on a scale.  And indeed, BMI is really nothing more than weight times a constant.  Unless your height changes drastically over time, this constant will not change.  You can memorize a number based on your height, and multiply your weight by that number to obtain your BMI. As a result, knowing your BMI is 25 or 30 is as meaningful as knowing your weight is 150 or 250 pounds. But since it’s an acronym, people think it’s meaningful.

Response:

alt.support.diet.low-carb, says… Since my lean body mass is 200 pounds, I’d need the help of a surgeon. And, by the way, according to BMI numbers, Brad Pitt is obese. These are known limitations of the BMI. The BMI is not perfect. But it works for most people. Jeff

I haven’t been terribly athletic in the course of my life.  One thing I have done, though, is carry some 130 extra pounds of mass everywhere I go, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for the past decade.  I’ve always carried a good deal of extra weight, even when it wasn’t in the triple digits. It stands to reason that one would be required to put on at least a little extra muscle to carry that kind of load. I wonder how many really obese people are a good deal less obese than their BMI numbers suggest.

The score is valid for both men and women but it does have some limits. The limits are: It may overestimate body fat in athletes and others who have a muscular build. It may underestimate body fat in older persons and others who have lost muscle mass. BMI is useful for most segments of the population.  You obviously are an outlier.  What’s your bf %? miguel

According to the electronic scale, my bf% is currently 35% (+/- 3%), and my BMI is 39.5. My fat-free mass has dipped to 194, which is definitely an outlying reading, given past history. I figure at the rate I’m going, I should hit a bf% of 22% around the beginning of December, and 11% around mid January.

Obesity Research Center, St. Luke’s/Roosevelt Hospital, Columbia University, College of Physicians and Surgeons, New York, New York 10025, USA. OBJECTIVES: To test the hypothesis that in a healthy pediatric population body mass index (BMI) (kilograms per meter square) is a valid measure of fatness that is independent of age for both sexes. METHODS: Total body fat (TBF) (in kilograms) and percent of body weight as fat (PBF) were estimated by dual energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA) in 198 healthy Italian children and adolescents between 5 and 19 years of age. We developed multiple regression analysis models with TBF and percent body fat as dependent variables and BMI, age, and interaction terms as independent variables. Separate analyses were conducted for boys and girls. RESULTS: BMI was strongly associated with TBF (R2 = 0.85 and 0.89 for boys and girls, respectively) and PBF (R2 =0.63 and 0.69 for boys and girls, respectively). Confidence limits on BMI-fatness association were wide, with individuals of similar BMI showing large differences in TBF and in PBF. Age was a significant covariate in all regression models. Addition of nonlinear terms for BMI did not substantially increase the R2 for TBF and PBF models in boys and girls. CONCLUSION: Our results support the use of BMI as a fatness measure in groups of children and adolescents, although interpretation should be cautious when comparing BMI across groups that differ in age or when predicting a specific individual’s TBF or PBF. Actually, this says that BMI is useful only for comparing groups of people and is useless for judging individuals:

Read again: It says: "although interpretation should be cautious when comparing BMI across groups that differ in age or when predicting a specific individual’s TBF or PBF." In other words, the measurement, like any medical test, in not perfect and has to be intrepreted carefully. For instance, a person with a high BMI and big muscles would not be considered fat or obese. All the best Jeff

August 26, 2003 Rising Obesity in Children Prompts Call to Action By NANCY WARTIK  Prevention has always been a cornerstone of pediatrics, more so than in almost any other medical specialty. Pediatricians vaccinate and screen. They counsel parents on ways to keep children healthy and safe. One area that pediatricians have not typically focused on, however, is preventing young patients from becoming overweight. Yet in the last 20 years, those who work in the field say, obesity has become the most prevalent chronic health problem among American children. In a report this month that points up this discrepancy, the American Academy of Pediatrics has called on members to make obesity screening and counseling routine parts of children’s checkups, like testing reflexes or measles immunizations. The report offers pediatricians procedures to identify and intervene with patients before weight problems start, rather than waiting until children are too heavy. After children have gained too much weight, the report suggests, it can be very hard for them to lose it and keep it off. Dr. Nancy Krebs, a pediatrician at the University of Colorado and a lead author of the report, said, "In the last five years, with both adults and pediatrics, there’s certainly been a trend toward saying, `Treatment success is so bleak, we’ve got to stop it because we can’t treat it once it occurs.’ " The authors of the report acknowledge that proven strategies for children are extremely limited. But they add that the scope of the epidemic makes it urgent for pediatricians to start acting. "If you look at the number of kids who are overweight or at risk," Dr. Krebs said, "you’re talking over 25 percent of our kids. If some infectious disease was affecting 25 percent to 30 percent of our children, you can be sure we’d be looking for some kind of vaccine." The percentage of seriously overweight children in this country has doubled among children 6 to 11 years old. It had increased to more than 15 percent in 1999 and 2000 from 7 percent of those surveyed from 1976 to 1980. Obesity in 12- to 19-year-olds jumped, to 15 percent from 5 percent over the same period. Even 10.4 percent of preschoolers are obese, according to the National Center for Health Statistics. About the same percentages of children in those age groups are not overweight yet, but are heavy enough to be considered at risk. Obesity raises the chances of developing disorders like Type 2 diabetes, hypertension, cholesterol abnormalities and asthma, as well as symptoms of depression or other psychological problems. Overweight children are also more likely to become obese adults, the report indicates. At 4, children have a 20 percent risk of carrying extra pounds into adulthood. Overweight adolescents have an 80 percent chance. Several factors explain the scattershot approach to obesity. "When you begin talking about weight, diet, exercise, you’re opening up a big area for discussion," said Dr. Christine Williams, director of the Children’s Cardiovascular Health Center at Children’s Hospital of New York-Presbyterian in Manhattan. "Looking over a child’s diet is time consuming, and doctors might feel that they don’t have the time to do that in their office," Dr. Williams said. Insurance companies don’t often reimburse interventions to prevent or treat those who are overweight, according to researchers in the field. "Pediatricians don’t feel they can do anything efficacious, anything that works," said Dr. Nicolas Stettler, a specialist in pediatric nutrition at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. "They’re discouraged and don’t feel they can have impact. They don’t really have the tools." Dr. Marc S. Jacobson, director of the Center for Atherosclerosis Prevention at Schneider Children’s Hospital in New Hyde Park, N.Y., and another lead author of the report, said: "There’s a lot of frustration in general among pediatricians that no matter what you do, patients continue to gain weight. We don’t feel that frustration is warranted. We tried to think pretty hard for this report about what were things pediatricians could do and to highlight them." Among the most forceful of eight recommendations in the report was one for routine tracking of body mass index, B.M.I. It is a rough measure of body fat, calculated by dividing body weight in kilograms by height in meters squared, with the result plotted against a child’s age. Children whose index is from the 85th to 95th percentile compared with others of their age are considered at risk for being overweight. Children above the 95th percentile are usually considered overweight. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released the first standardized index charts for girls and for boys from ages 2 to 20 in 2000, and advised pediatricians to use them to track the index annually. But early results from a continuing study by researchers at Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago showed that in just 1 of 55 pediatric visits, observed by a researcher, did a doctor actually calculate a child’s body mass index. Some doctors, Dr. Krebs said, insist that they can detect developing weight problems with regular height and weight charts, which are simpler to use, and with physical examinations. "But if a child already looks overweight," she said, "it would have been better to intervene sooner. You probably could have picked it up on the B.M.I." The guidelines also urge pediatricians to pay closer attention to individual risk factors for obesity, and monitor children at higher risk. For example, when one parent is obese, a child’s risk is about three times as high as normal, and if both parents are heavy, the risk is more than 10 times as great. Babies with high birth weights also appear to be at risk. Formula-fed babies, a series of studies has shown, have higher odds of being obese than breast-fed babies do, and the new report advises pediatricians to "support and protect breast-feeding." Researchers have also linked the risk of obesity to growing up in a single parent home, parental hyperconcern about children’s eating habits and the time spent watching television. Ethnicity matters, too. Hispanic and African-American children are disproportionately hard hit compared with white children. Other recommendations involve educating parents about eating patterns and settings, encouraging parents to keep children active and suggesting limits on time for television and video games to no more than two hours a day. But some evidence supports the idea that even when pediatricians do address weight problems directly, patients still fail to slim down. A study being conducted at the State University of New York at Buffalo measured changes in B.M.I. among a group of overweight children who were referred to a pediatric specialty clinic. Parents and children were counseled about diet and exercise and referred to a dietitian. The preliminary results for 127 children show that two years after their first visits, the index rose an average of 2 points. Still, Dr. Teresa Quattrin, chief of the division of pediatric endocrinology and diabetes at the Women & Children’s Hospital of Buffalo and an investigator for the study, said the research underscored the importance obesity prevention as opposed to intervention. She pointed out that there was a lag of at least a few years between the time that children’s weight problems began and when they were referred to the clinic. "Many times children start to be obese, but they are cute and we don’t quite counsel the parents," Dr. Quattrin said. "We have to be aware of when this issue is starting and intervene in the initial phase, when obesity is in the making." Another problem is that many general practitioners have little education about broaching the topic of weight or helping patients make sweeping changes that may involve a family’s diet and style of life. "The academy report is terribly helpful," said Dr. William Dietz, director of the division of nutrition and physical activity at the C.D.C.’s National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion. "It tells pediatricians a lot about what they should be assessing and what they should focus on in terms of preventive or therapeutic efforts. The missing piece is, How do you actually do it? And that’s the key piece. How do you engage families? It takes a different type of training to change behavior than pediatricians are receiving in medical school." In fact, a panel from the American Academy of Pediatrics is developing guidelines to help pediatricians discuss weight. Recognizing that pediatricians can do just so much in their practices, the academy is urging members to become advocates for change locally and nationally. "There are policies that need to be instituted that could really help," Dr. Jacobson said. "In terms of safe, well-supervised playgrounds. Advertising to kids. Policies about television for children. Policies about school physical activity. As far as what we can do in our office practice

I’ve always wondered why women like guys like that. Would you still enjoy attention from that kind of guy if you knew he was like that with all women?  Would you enjoy being just another girl?  It’s women like you who basically encourage womanisers.

How is he being harassed if he doesn’t like hearing talk about morning sickness?  There are things I don’t like to hear talked about like sports but somehow I think I’d be laughed at if I tried to report it when I asked someone to refrain and they didn’t.

Well I think there’s a little difference between hearing talk about sports and hearing talk about morning sickness *if you are eating* ;) — "Whining" behaviour doesn’t work – or it provides a sort of unhealthy, secondary support which is rooted in pity rather than sincerity. –Marc Meunier

I agree that there is a difference.  No one hates hearing the pregnancy stories worse than I do.  I’ve had to go through that multiple times over the years with pregnant coworkers.  It’s just that as gross as it may be, it’s not a legally prohibited category of speech at work.

I do the one all the time. But the other sounds like it would hurt really bad. I removed my bellybutton ring and I am not going to put it back in. I also removed my tongue bell and will never put it back in either. No more shaving down there – no more waxing my bkini line. The tats are another problem. zoe

It’s so true! I work with these two other waitresses and all they ever talk about is sex with their boyfriends. It’s gross.  At work I talk about my kitty or something I saw walking around. So they must think I don’t know anything. But really, the only place I ever talk about sex is here. On break I have a smoke with one of the chef, a black guy, and one of the Mexican busboys. The black guy is very cool, always talks about his kids and the busboy hardly speaks English.   At work I find it easier to talk to the guys than the chicks. The chicks are always gaming and bitching about each other behind their backs. (I know they talk about metoo. But I haven’t given them much to gossip about. ) Then there is "Fernando". He is this very cute latin guy that flirts with all the girls. Whenever I go on shift he always greets me with this wild accent – "Dzoe, you luk so butiful tonight, I could jus tak a bite out of jyu." "Dzoe, jou are so tense – jyou need a full body metssage from Fernando. I promise to be the genteel witchjou." God if he only knew!

Oh God I used to!  When I was 19 I worked in an office with about 20 women….and me!  Those women could make a trooper blush I’m telling you, lol.  While I was there, 3 of the women got pregnant – nothing to do with me I assure you, but you can imagine the conversations during break/lunch time….gee whizz…graphic descriptions of the birthing process, afterbirth, stretch marks, stirrups, hemorrhoids…you name it. No, it’s you that has a problem.  Guys talk about sex all the time, where have you been?  I think it sucks the way uptight people such as yourself have created a climate where you are not supposed to talk about sex, or breastfeed a kid, or make a pass at a girl.  This stuff is completely natural, get over it. — "Sigourney Weaver is pretty cool, he really kicks ass in all those alien movies, even if he does look a little like a chick." perl -e ‘$_ = "manresaboy@NO.yahoo.SPAM.comn"; s/NO.//; s/SPAM.//; print;’

Yeah I don’t think anyone can say they’ve truely been disgusted until they listen to a group of women talk. hehe Doesn’t really bother me until one of them will say "are you enjoying the conversation?" or some such solely to embarass me in front of their friends. Not like you can avoid hearing people sitting next to you. That’s not uncommon.  If they’re talking about sex in front of you then you could try to complain about it, but if you do then you come out of it looking bad and will have trouble as a result.  Best thing to do is just accept that it’s something you’re going to have to deal with.

Question:

Hi.   I am new here, and was thrilled to find this ng.  I think you guys could help me out a lot.   I was just wondering if anyone had any advice for a Weight-watchers dropout.  I lost 10 lbs on the plan last year, but have since gained it all back and then some.   My biggest problem is that I *cannot* cook.  I mean I am such a horrible cook it isn’t funny.  I eat out all the time.  Anyone have any advice? Thanks a bunch!! ~Kathy

Response:

Go back to the next meeting you can attend!  You don’t NEED to cook.  Ask your leader and members for coping ideas.  We had one guy in our group who NEVER ate at home.  He worked in a hotel and ate 3 meals a day there.  He was wildly successful, reaching a 30 pound loss in the time most of us take for 10.  (I’m convinced it’s a guy thing.)  So it can be done.  Putting it off will only mean you’ll rejoin later at an even higher weight! To calculate food and activity points, I love this computer desktop calculator … http://www.zythra.com/downloads/points.exe The basic plan is easy.  Eat at least your minimum daily number of points. Points do not carry over from day to day.  You are allotted 35 weekly flexpoints to be used at your discretion … can divide them up and use daily (would be an additional 5 points per day) or save them and use them for a special occassion during the week.  Activity points are earned based when exercising, but can ONLY be used on the day they are earned. I thought I see if I can be successful on my own, and am hoping this newsgroup will act as "my meeting." So what do you all do here. Do you have a weigh in once a week, giving all your stats? Pam

Response:

Hi Pam and a belated Welcome. This group acts as a meeting for dh and me and I have found it makes more accountable that I felt when I did attend meetings. We weigh in each Friday morning and I post stats here. )though I am late this week so have only posted today) I know everyone is different – but I hope this works as well for you as it does for us. Blessings Sue The Rangerz Matthew 218/202/175  (16lbs gone)  and  Sue 220/205/154 (15lbs gone) (Both started 5th Jan 2001) Twins are a gift from Heaven above, twice as nice and giftwrapped in love.

Hi Pam! Welcome to the group! I’m using this group as my meeting because there is no WW here. I post my Tuesday morning weigh in results. I picked Tuesday because that happened to be the first day of the year. Welcome to learn a more sustainable way of losing weight than Atkins. Hi Pam This is a wonderful group – the only one I’ve been on that welcomes new comers readily. WW is a plan that really works and even better, that you can stick for the long term. Good luck and hope to hear of your successes soon. Pril 60.8/58.2/52kg

Hi Pam and welcome to the WW ng :) We don’t have an official weigh in day here, but we do have series of challenges, and report in weekly weights while the challenges are running  eg:  Last year we had a Christmas Challenge and a group of people posted their weights monthly… we ended up losing a combined total of over 800 pounds :)  Since new years we have had a Valentines Day Massacre Challenge…  it will be ending in a week, but after that, we will do an April Fools Challenge.. so look for that one to start just after Valentines…  I am not sure who is the official keeper of the weights, but details will be posted soon. The idea is, you figure out what you would like to realistically weigh by April 1, and set that as your goal. EG: the 7 week Valentine challenge, I set one pound a week as my goal… It looks as though the next challenge will run 6-7 weeks… so start thinking about how much you want to try to lose in that time. :) It is a fun way to break up this weight loss journey we are all on :) — ~~Joanie~~ Started WW Oct 31/2000 224.6/219/215 (personal minigoal #2) /202.6 = 10% Valentines Day Massacre  goal 215 5′5"  - rubenesque  hourglass shape 916 mile club miles done:   47.95/916

Hi Pam, This group just isn’t losing weight it is a wonderful group of caring people that help you thru everyday life crisis, times that you seem like you can’t go on, they are the first to step forward, give you a hug and help you go forward. We are glad you are here!! Erin

Response:

Hi Pam, I write in occasionally to say hi, give support, help celabrate, and post new numbers (up or down). There’s nothing "official" as far as I can tell. I reserve the right to be wrong! :) Welcome and hello. I’ve lost 24 pounds in 33 days with WW Points and am pretty happy about it! :) Ginger

Response:

Hi Pam and welcome to the group.  We don’t post monthly – we just post our weights weekly or whenever we weigh in and support each other daily – sometimes hourly :o ) Here are  some hints and tips for you : *** There are lots of friendly supportive folks around here who have a really good idea of what you’re going through.  We’re definitely here to help! Here are some tips that might help you stay motivated and keep on track.  If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask! ****** 1. Drink lots of water.. I mean at least 8 – 8 0z glasses a day  PLUS a glass of water for every 25 pounds overweight you are. I weigh 220 and I am drinking 100 OZ of water a day. For information on WHY you need the water… read this article, it is chalk full of good reasons.  This is written by a fellow ASDer, Claudia, and is excellent. http://dietchef.ecorp.net/articles/health/water.htm 2.  Here on the ASDWW NG, we play a game to help each other out.  Every time someone mentions the word "water" in a post, you take a swill from your water glass!  This helps everyone remember to get all their water in.  You are invited to participate. :) 3. LEARN all you can about the importance of getting to your desired weight.. Whatever way of eating you do, learn all about it. I do Weight Watchers, I learned about WW and am making it my life’s journey. That is what we on the WW NG are doing.. so join us! There is a great website that I like to tell people about built and written by a fellow WW member… she has filled her website with GREAT ideas, tips, ways she lost, before and after pics…  I highly recommend you click on this link and look around. I go there for inspiration and motivation. I love this site.. :) http://www.dottisweightlosszone.com/mystory.html 4. Exercise!! The BEST way to speed up your weight loss, is to add regular exercise to your lifestyle (wol = way of living).   SHAKE IT UP…  eg: do gym cardio one day.. on alternate days do…  walk, hike, dance like a fool in your living room.. don’t let your body have the chance to get used to what you are doing. :) ) You need to trick it, as your body can adapt and that is where you reach plateaus.  :)   Some of us on the WW NG have joined Destination 2000… there is a website dedicated to this if you are interested in setting exercise goals for yourself… http://www.geocities.com/mystic1972/index.htm 5. Snack during the day using healthy foods. There are a lot of good ideas on here to be had, keep your eyes open. Junk food binges usually happen because your body has had an insulin spike after a meal, and if you satisfy that craving or urge to eat, put something good in your tummy instead of junk… by eating junk food… you slide back, your exercise will have been for nothing, as you are giving your body more fat to store. :) MAKE YOUR EXERCISE COUNT!!  Nothing tastes as good as slim feels  REMEMBER THAT. :) ) Joanie’s Dr. recommends chromium for cravings.. the doctor said that if she takes one with the main meal, it will help to even out your blood sugar level, and thereby prevents cravings. 6. Ask yourself why you want to lose weight?  Make a list of the reasons you have to lose…  put them in one column….  then ask yourself why you should not lose weight, put those reasons in the other column. I think you will find that you have every reason on earth to get healthy. Many of us were not taught the right way to eat. (we grew up on hamburger helper… you just don’t know how many ways there are to serve it.. )  I don’t blame my mum, as she didn’t’ know better… but in this day and age, where information is at our fingertips…  make it your business to learn about all of this! :) 7. Eat breakfast! It will help you to have energy during the day, and prevent cravings mid morning and lunch time. It also helps your metabolism as your body doesn’t go into starvation mode… and slow your metabolism.  Also, if you are having difficulties making your minimum points for the day, adding a few extra points for breakfast is a great way to make sure you’re eating enough! 8. Set minigoals for yourself… how about setting your goal to lose 5 pounds…  and that is ALL you have to think about… getting down 5 pounds! .  Once you reach that, you set a new number… :) It helps to say "I have 5 pounds to lose!" I can do that!!!   Rather than saying I have 125 pounds (like me) to lose UGH! 9. Dont’ be in a rush for it all to happen at once…. it took a long time to put the weight on, it won’t come off in a week or two. :) Patience. You have a lifetime to get this right, there is no hurry. 10. Get the FAQ’s ma’am!   ASDWW FAQ: http://www.didian.com/asdww/ This is the faq made up for asdww by Cindy now maintained by Diane. Thanks! It is a list of commonly asked questions here on WW ASD. 11. this is where you can find the list of some of the regulars you will see on this NG :) http://aclancy.home.mindspring.com/WW/ ****** 12. We on the NG have a website :) It has a chat room, and a message area, and we are starting up a clothing swap. So come have a look at http://members.home.net/joanie-55 ****** Hope some of this helps! *** Today is the tomorrow you dreamed about yesterday. Good luck – — ~ ~ Rocki ~ ~ S. Hi Lisa and welcome to the group.  I know that you can follow the program while nursing – you get extra points, and I think you are supposed to have more dairy.  I have no personal experience though :)  There are many here who have done or are doing the online program.  I think you just weight yourself on your home scale and report the results.  It’s certainly a good option if you don’t have the time for meetings.  Here’s our welcome notice to get yous tarted in the group. Welcome to this great newsgroup where you’ll receive lots of support, advice, and encouragement. Once a week on Sundays, I post a list of links that newcomers to asdww might find useful. You may want to look for that later in the week, or do a backwards search for last Sunday’s post. In the meantime, here’s our FAQ: http://www.didian.com/asdww/ our welcome notice: http://www.geocities.com/welcomenotice/index.html Frequently seen acronyms on this NG: NSV = Non-Scale Victory WOE = Way of Eating WOL = Way of Life (Living) OP = on Points or On Program DH = Dear or Darling Husband DS/DD/DGD/etc = Dear or Darling Son, Daughter, Granddaughter, etc WI = Weigh-in Amberle3’s Challenges: Totally Groovy exercise challenge: http://www.angelfire.com/me4/travelgirl/tg.htm Choose to Lose weight loss challenge: http://www.angelfire.com/me4/travelgirl/ctl.htm Weight Loss Challenge Summary: http://www.angelfire.com/me4/travelgirl/summary.htm Other acronyms: http://www.wwlissa.com/dwlz100+/100+acronyms.htm Here’s a short synopsis of the USA Flexpoints program by Joyce – How many points you can eat is only based on your current weight, as you lose weight those points allowed will decrease (logic is that your body will need less to operate).   At 183 pounds and based on the new US flexpoints system, you will have a set point target of 24.  In addition to this you are allowed 35 flexpoints to be used throughout the week … as well as any activity points you earn on a particular day.  When your weight drops to 175, your target drops to 22 points … weight reaches 150, target once again drop to 20 points.  3 servings of dairy of recommended per day, 5 servings of fruit and veggies, minimum of 6 glasses of water. The basic plan is easy. Joyce WW starting weight: 228.8 – 2/5/02 current weight:  133.3 Lifetime: 4/4/03 And here’s an explanation of Core/No-count by Laura – It is a great plan. You DO however need to make sure that you are eating at your normal Flex plan target number of points. This can be difficult for some and you WILL stop losing. Here is the summary of the plan: http://ahwww.home.comcast.net/summary.htm Here is the detail list of foods: http://ahwww.home.comcast.net/wwcoreplan.htm Basic rules: 1. Eat as much of the core foods as you need to feel "satisfied" (not full). 2. If you want to eat foods that are not on the core foods list use you 35 weekly points allowance (WPA). Note: use these points on healthy foods and not junk. 3. Activity points are used to supplement the 35 WPA for Non-core food items only. They must be used on the day they are earned. Note: most people find that they will increase the amount of core foods because they are hungrier due to exercising. 4. 2 teaspoons of heathy oil daily is required. ~Laura Please note that if you live in onther countries (UK, Australia, NZ, Europe), the Points plans are different.  The UK and Australia/NZ calculate points based on saturated fat and total kilojoules.  Most of Europe calculates based on total fat and total kilojoules.  The desktop calculator above can handle all of these programs. Nearly all of the time, people like this are just trying to yank someone’s chain. Also, since I have 2 small children and will be returning to work in 3 weeks, going to meetings will be difficult.  I was looking to join online. I looked at the WW website, and it didn’t go into much detail about how their online program works.  How do you weigh in–go to a local meeting for that?  Has anyone here done the online program and what was your opinion about it?  Any assistance or  advice is appreciated!  I was also cleared by the OB yesterday to start exercising again, so I’m looking to get this ball rolling! Hello everyone.  I am new here but have been lurking for a few weeks.  I joined WW 3 weeks ago and just love it.  I have a 10 week old little girl and really needed to do something about the weight gain as soon as possible.  I am breast feeding and have the 10 extra points.  Although the weight is coming off slowly it is coming off and  I have only had losses so far.  I also quit smoking when I found out I was PG so some of the gain is from that … either way I’m still carrying it around. I have alot to lose, and for someone like me who hasn’t really struggled with my weight before it seems very overwhelming at times looking at the numbers.     I just love reading the NG and find it to be a good support and motivator.  I am drinking my liters of water everyday, but have trouble with the exercice, mostly because I live in Vancouver BC and the weather isn’t that great … although it beautiful today.  Any suggestions on Videos?  I have the "buns of steel" series but that is just way too intense for me right now.  ( I get winded just looking at the video case!) I’m looking for something that is a good workout (low impact) but that I can get through just the same. Thanks Mares 195/191/136

Welcome to the group!  I like the walking, but when the weather is bad I use my stepper (just a wooden step that a friend built for me for free).  It is more intense than walking, but you can go at your own pace while listening to music or watching TV.  I  have found that since I’ve been walking, the stepper has gotten a lot easier than it used to be. — Anya 201/187.5/185 minigoal Goal 124 – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Hello everyone. Breastfeeding Protects Against Tooth Decay

Question:

Breastfeeding Protects Against Tooth Decay A new report suggests that breastfeeding and a genetic resistance to tooth decay may help protect against the condition, known medically as early childhood caries (ECC). "ECC is generally considered a significant and devastating disease in a child, and it targets the individual for decay throughout their life," said Dr. Mary Hayes, a pediatric dentist and spokesperson for the American Dental Association. The new study included 260 children aged 3 to 5 who lived in Greece. The researchers, led by Dr. Constantine Oulis, of the University of Athens, divided the youngsters into two groups: those who had already developed multiple cavities and those who had no more than one. They found that both groups of children used bottles to the same degree, and that children who fell asleep with the bottle were much more likely to develop cavities than those who did not. However, some children did not develop cavities even when they "misused" the bottle. This led the investigators to conclude that some biological factor may increase the individual’s resistance to dental disease. Additionally, the researchers found that those children who did not have cavities used a bottle for about 33 months — roughly 4 months shorter than those who did develop cavities. Children who were breastfed for over 40 days were also less likely to develop cavities than those who were breastfed for shorter periods of time. The researchers speculate that breastmilk may contain some factors, such as antibodies, that can inhibit S. mutans, the bacteria that cause tooth decay. Pat W

Hi Folks, I posted here a while back for help, information, etc. for my son, who is 23 months old and has strange grooves in his two front upper teeth. They came out that way when he was about eight months old. My husband took him to a dentist a while back, and the dentist, without taking x-rays, just looking at his teeth for literally 10 seconds, declared that he had cavities which had to be fixed immediately before abscesses formed. These cavities, she continued, were formed as a result of PROLONGED BREASTFEEDING and NIGHTTIME NURSING. Before I go any further, I have to explain that my son was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 5 months, and underwent 9 months of chemotherapy, beginning at that age. This dentist did not take this into consideration AT ALL. The dentist didn’t mention it at all, as a matter of fact. And apparently she is well-versed in cancer and children. Chemo is known to do major damage to children’s teeth. Many kids I know (older than my son) are needing to have all sorts of dental work done thanks to the chemo drugs. My theory is that his chemo is what did this to his teeth. Why his two front teeth and no others is beyond me, but that’s what I think. Now, all the books I have read on the topic of bf and attachment parenting have all stated that prolonged bf and nighttime nursing are recommended. I contacted my LC, who is a very educated and knowledgeable person, and she cited a couple of articles (studies) that disproved what this dentist is telling us. We have since gone to our oncologist (cancer specialist), who made a second inquiry with another dentist, who also stated that MANY breastfed children end up with cavities. It is a well known FACT, he told her. I am on the hunt for ANYTHING and EVERYTHING to educate these guys about breastmilk and bf and nighttime nursing. I want to do this for the sake of my son, and for all the many other children whose moms will probably be scared into stopping breastfeeding much earlier than they had intended. If anyone has any names of specialists, studies, anything, please e-mail me privately. This has been eating away at me for months now. I posted here once before, as I said, and received a few responses, but I need MORE!!!! As well, if anyone has had similar experience, whereby a bf child ends up with cavities that the dentist said were due to the breastmilk, please let me know. Thanks very much in advance. Ninety-six children, 55 boys and 41 girls (mean age 28.8 months,                         SD 8.8), were examined. Most of the parents belong to a higher socio-economic working class.                         The examination included a questionnaire and dietary sheet, combined with the caries status of                         the child. On average the children were breast-feed for 21.5 months (SD 9.8). The mean age at                         which the parents started brushing the children’s teeth was 11.7 months (SD 5.1). Fluoridated                         toothpaste (250 ppm fluoride) was used by 70% of the children. The children were divided into                         three groups according to their caries pattern: 1 caries-free; 2 caries, and 3 nursing caries.                         Dentine caries was found in 14 (14.5%) of the children, of which 9 (9.3%) met the criteria of                         nursing caries. The mean dmfs of all children examined was 1.2 (SD 4.8). Up to 18 months of age                         the breast was given significantly more frequently during the night and up to 24 months during the                         day time, to the children of the nursing caries group compared to the children in the other two                         groups. The children still being breast-fed at the time of investigation more frequently slept in their                         parents’ bed. The children of the nursing-caries group used fluoridated dentifrices less often. The                         majority of children of the caries and nursing-caries groups did not receive fluoride from other                         sources. The results of the present study demonstrate that prolonged demand breast-feeding does                         not lead to a higher caries prevalence although comparison between the groups demonstrates that                         frequent breast-feeding and low additional fluoride use should be considered as contributing factors                         in the process of nursing caries.                    Language of Publication                         English                    Unique Identifier                         98099408 Anne William – 4/11/98 Jessica – 8/28/78 For Articles/Resources on intuitive parenting, breastfeeding, co-sleeping, etc.:                            http://www.intuitiveparenting.org I am: mom, Attorney, Prof., Advocate for Fathers, ChildBirth Educator (in training)                            http://www.parentinglaw.com

Funny you say that.  I went to the mall the other morning with my third child (7 weeks) and I needed to feed her at one point.  I sat down in the middle of the mall on a bench — no nice chairs at this particular mall (in Nashua, NH).  I latcher her on, covered up (had a nursing shirt on) and looked around a bit.  It was very empty — but the various reactions are funny. Some people are oblivious, some are uncomfortable but not disapproving — a few are outright disapproving.  But there were quite a few big smiles from women who have definitly been there and one came over and struck up a conversation.  There was one guy who kept trying to figure out what exactly I was doing — kept glancing over trying to figure out if I was nursing her or not.  Curious — not upset. I feel it is my job to nurse in public — the more woman who do it — the more common it becomes….

Hi, I’m Dee.  This is my first posting but I have been reading for a couple of days.  I’m the mother of 2 girls: Sara age 4 and Anjuli 3 months.   I’ve always nursed my kids when ever where ever they wanted nursing.  I used a sling with Sara and could actually set up to walk around with her nursing. No one even knew I was nursing but they could see her little feet sticking out.   My mother though would get upset because Sara tended to make "noises" (like smaking her lips and slurping). Little Anjuli is quite a different child.  She doesn’t make any "noises"  I nurse her everywhere as well.  In church the other day a lady reached over and congratulated me because I was nursing her right there during the service.  But she only knew because she was sitting next to me.  I was approached Snack Bar area of a store the other day because a Mom had noticed I was holding Anjuli so close then she realized I was nursing.  She said you couldn’t tell.  (I also was wearing a special nursing dress that day). God gave me breasts and children and I’m using them as he intended.  As for people who don’t like breast feeding, it’s their problem not mine. Dee

Nope, not unless you have major scar tissue that covers your whole nipple.  =)  Your breasts have lots of milk ducts.  Some of them will be blocked by the pierce, but most of them won’t.  I’m 17 weeks pregnant now, and I plan on breastfeeding. *natasha

I’m also 17 weeks pregnant and plan to breastfeed (switching to barbells with small balls if I must).  I currently have CBRs that will likely cause problems for an infant trying to latch on. Most piercers pierce female nipples at the base of the nipple rather than through the aerolae.  This diminishes the chances of damaging as many milk ducts.  But, since you have many milk ducts, piercing your nipple won’t make it impossible to breastfeed later on. electric. — please remove id. from the return addy to email electric.

Yes, estrogen will promote the growth of some types of breast cancer once the cancer has developed, but a direct causal link between estrogen and breast cancer has not been shown.  Estrogens (and estrogen medicines and products) most likely cause breast tissue to be more active which can make breast cells more vulnerable to oxygen radicals and other DNA damaging chemicals thus leading to breast cancer, but estrogen itself has never been shown to damage DNA (a required step in the formation of all know cancers). Breast cancer always is a consequence of DNA DAMAGE, not estrogen imbalance. Paul, It’s a great mistake to believe that estrogen only will promote the growth of a tumor. Extracted from Nexus Magazine, Volume 5, #4 (June – July 1998): "In the early 1970’s, a shameful chapter closed on the widespread use of a known carcinogenic and endocrine-disrupting drug called DES (diethylstilboestrol), the first synthetic, non-steroidal estrogen drug. Against the advice of its creator, Sir Charles Dodds, between four and six million American and European women and 10,000 Australian women innocently used DES for the prevention of miscarriage and pregnancy complications. In addition, DES became a popular though unproven drug for a variety of other conditions. It was used for the suppression of lactation, the treatment of acne, the treatment of certain types of breast and prostatic cancer, and as an inhibitor of growth in young girls, an estrogen replacement in menopause and a ‘morning after’ pill." Helen Hi Helen. Well…DES caused cancer in 0.14% of the DAUGHTERS of the women who used DES.  So, because DES did not cause cancer in the women who were taking the drug, it seems to me that DES was acting as some sort of TERATOGEN which results in cancer in an extremely small percentage of the female offspring of women who took DES (DES is usually taught within the context of another teratogen called thalidomide).  If DES was such a carcinogen, why did it not cause cancer in the women who took DES? With all of the many uses of DES as you mentioned, wouldn’t you expect it to cause many more cases of cancer if it were truly a carcinogen? (if it did cause cancer in these people, please let me know where I can find this information) Regardless, DES is not estrogen, and I would be very reluctant to group all estrogens into the same category as DES. I responded to the original post because statements claiming that all breast cancers are caused by an estrogen imbalance has simply never been proven.  In fact, I would be willing to bet that nearly none of the women who have breast cancer also have an estrogen imbalance. The original post may also make some women fear taking exogenous estrogens for ‘hormone replacement therapy’ after menopause, when infact the benefits of taking estrogen (decreased risk of heart attack, decreased osteoporosis, etc..) clearly outway the risks of taking exogenous estrogens. Well…i’ve babbled enough for now  :) Talk to you later! Paul ****to send email to me, please remove the  x  from my email address (this helps to get rid of most of the junk mass email – aka SPAM).

Hi Paul, World wide millions of women who used DES never have been traced. How many daughters? So where does this %-age come from? Daughters AND women who used DES have higher risks. (Information of our national DES-organization.) DES was a strong estrogen, in the 1960’s en 1970’s used for many purposes. If it was not called DES, it was another strong estrogen with an identical effect. To know more about the relation estrogen-use and (breast)cancer one has to research the history (extrogenous estrogens in lifetime) of every victim, taking account of all estrogen-medicins as f.i.: . birth control pill; . medicines to suppress breast feeding after childbirth; . medicins to regulate menstruation; . morning after pill; . medicins before and during pregnancy.; etc. AND: . heredity and/or . induced abortion and/or . implants? Why does nobody do such research? Exogenous estrogens for ‘hormone replacement therapy’? Why do so many women need exogenous estrogens? Because of an estrogen imbalance. Caused by exogenous estrogens in years before? Helen

Hello Helen, sorry to hear of your history.  One thing of interest to me was your cancer being an estrogen imbalance.  I am very curious to see how this current study by the FDA comes out.  It is being funded by the chemical companies so that’s a big ? to me.  But the FDA is studying over 15,000 different chemicals to see how they affect our endocrine system. Consumer Reports Mag. June or July 1998 issue has an interesting article titled Hormone Mimics that is a must read for everyone.  I am totally horrified at all the shit that is out there in food, cosmetics, plastics etc. just about everywhere.  You may want to read on this too on Ralph Nader’s Public Citizen’s site.   http://www.citizen.org/  I have a feeling if the truth be know this study will shake the planet.  Eloise

Hello Eloise, Indeed, such studies always are funded by the chemical companies????? Breast cancer always is a consequence of an estrogen imbalance. Caused by environmental influences? The most directly way of contact estrogen in the highest dosage is via medicins!!! I hope I understood your message well and that my english is clear. Helen

Estrogen is NOT a carcinogen.  An estrogen imbalance is NOT the cause of breast cancer. It was used for the suppression of lactation, the treatment of acne, the treatment of certain types of breast and prostatic cancer, and as an inhibitor of growth in young girls, an estrogen replacement in menopause and a ‘morning after’ pill." I HAD THEM DONE AGAIN, THEY LOOKED GOOD FOR 8 YEARS. I WAS DIAGNOSED WITH BREAST CANCER, I ASKED THE DOCTORS TO LEAVE IN MY IMPLANTS, I WAS SCARED TO LOSE "MY BOOBS". THE FIRST TWO SURGERIES WERE OKAY, BUT THE CANCER WAS ALSO IN ANOTHER AREA.  THEY TOOK THAT OUT TOO AND LEFT "MY BOOBS" IN AND DID RADIATION THERAPY TO RID THE CANCER. MY BREAST HARDENED AS TIGHT AS A BASEBALL, I WOKE UP CRYING AT NIGHT. NOW I AM DEFORMED, FLAT, BURNED AND SCARRED. NOT FROM EARLY STAGE BREAST CANCER, BUT FROM IMPLANTS. AND WHO KNOWS IF THE LARGE TOXIC FOREIGN INVADERS SENT MY IMMUNE SYSTEM CRAZY AND HELPED MY POOR TOXIC-FROZEN LIVER TO STOP CLEANSING MY BLOOD, WHICH TOGETHER HELPED CREATE THE CANCER? WHY NOT, THERE IS NOT HISTORY OF BREAST CANCER IN MY FAMILY; I AM THIN, AN INTERNATIONAL FASHION MODEL AND A BEAUTY QUEEN AND TELEVISION HOST AND I LOVE HEALTH FOOD, SO WHY WOULD I GET CANCER?? THE POINT IS THIS, I WISH TO GOD EVERY DAY THAT I WOULD HAVE KEPT MY NATURAL LITTLE BREASTS THAT HE GAVE ME, I WOULD HAVE LOOKED BETTER THAN I DO NOW EVEN WITH THE CANCER. Four years ago I got breast cancer. I studied a lot of scientifical literature. I learned that breast cancer is a consequence of a disturbed estrogen-balance. My conclusion is that causes of such disturbance are: . taint of heredity and/or . abortion and/or . the use of estrogen-medicines or medicines with an identical working. Now I wonder if in cases of implants the women in question get such medicines. I’m very interested in your answer. Wish you all the best! Helen
